WBON Monthly E-Newsletter - July 2016

July 22, 2016 5:27 PM | Pat Heffernan (Administrator)

Greetings from WBON!

While you may know WBON primarily for our events, chapter meetings, and policy work, WBON is also an important partner in many statewide initiatives affecting Vermont women. For example, WBON is honored to serve on the Advisory Council for the Vermont Commission on Women (VCW), an independent non-partisan state commission dedicated to advancing rights and opportunities for women in Vermont. As an Advisor, WBON provides a voice for women business owners, helping to inform the public education, coalition building and advocacy efforts undertaken by the Commission.

Last month, representatives from WBON attended the annual advisory council meeting to update the Commission and other advisory council members on WBON’s activities and some of the issues facing women business owners.

As a follow-up to that event, VCW let us know of their upcoming gubernatorial forum on women’s issues. They are soliciting questions from experts, organizations, and others. If you’d like to contribute any questions or comments on priorities for the next governor, visit their event page to make your voice heard:

For this month’s member Q&A, we sat down with Amelia Gulkis of EnSave. This consulting firm owner shares her favorite business resources, the checklist she’s still looking for, and what makes her proud. A few of you are on deck to be featured in a future issue, and there’s plenty of room for more members to be highlighted in a future issue. Please email to be featured in the newsletter or to ask any other questions of your board.

Burlington Chapter - meetings are at Zen Garden in South Burlington from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. This month the chapter presents, "Sell It by Giving It Away", presented by Kelly Klein of Vermont Craft Mead. Overview: You put everything into your product, your service, and your business, so why would you give it away for free? The answer is: Everyone loves free samples, and it’s much easier to buy it once you’ve tried it. Come to this month’s Burlington WBON meeting to learn the ins-and-outs of “free samples” and how to make sure that even if it’s free, people still understand its value. Click Here to Register
