WBON Monthly E-Newsletter - June 2016

June 06, 2016 9:00 AM | Pat Heffernan (Administrator)

We hope things are going well in your lives and businesses as we close in on another quarter—hard to believe we are nearly at the halfway-mark of 2016, with summer just a few weeks away!

Many of you were interested in the independent contractor legislation discussion at the Spring Conference. Based on the feedback from all of you and on WBON’s public policy committee findings, WBON issued a joint statement with VBSR requesting the legislature to hold off on deciding on this legislation until the next biennium. Happily, the legislature did indeed table a decision on independent contractors until the next session, rather than rushing into a decision that will affect so many businesses in Vermont.

This is just one of the issues currently under consideration with WBON's public policy committee. If there are particular issues of importance to you, please use your policy committee as a resource!

Also on the policy front, perhaps you’ve heard of the new overtime rules issued by the Department of Labor. Do you have employees? If so, make sure you are up to speed on the new rules going into effect December 1:
